The first stop at Mountaineer Raceway has come and gone. Once again we experienced some up and down weather. Friday started out humid with a few showers, but set up went well.
We would like to thank Chris from Mountaineer for making our team feel welcomed by providing ample space for all our rigs, canopies and bikes.
On Saturday, we kicked off our WMX Motorsports vending, with the Donnelly’s setting up a great booth and John performing all necessary bike adjustments; I believe we have finally achieved the ultimate pit area. Many changes were made to the track over the winter months and the riders spent the day trying to figure out new jumps, corners and good lines for Sunday race day. The weather was nice and sunny until mid day when the threat of thunderstorms cut the practice short. However the weather held off and our Saturday night dinner was a big success. Thank you to all who supplied a side dish or dessert and helped with set up.
Race day proved to be a bit of a challenge since we had received quite a bit of rain Saturday evening. We had developed a small pond in the pit area, not to mention the condition of the track. After a very muddy practice, the track was scrapped; mud tires installed and we were off to the races. The starting area stayed under water for most of the day. It was a mud bath to the 1st corner if you were any place behind 1st. I do believe Kevin, our Senior A rider, took the prize for the muddiest rider of the day. Check out his photo in the gallery.
The team definitely picked up the momentum this weekend with most riders finishing better than Tomahawk. Jake Runkles went 1st and 1st for a 1st overall in 65B 7-11 and 2nd and 2nd for a 2nd overall in 85B 9-11. Daryn Thompson had a 1st overall in 85B 12-15 and 3rd overall in the Supermini class. Stan Bolen had two good motos in the 250C making him 4th overall for the day. He went 7th and 7th for a 7th overall on his new YZ125 in the School Boy class. In the 85C 12 -15, Jon Braun had a great 2nd moto coming in 6th making 8th overall for the day. Mike Lupey and Kevin Stoner finished 7th overall in their classes, with Kevin “Zach” Stoner finishing 8th for the day and Chris Heinlein coming in 9th. Rounding out our riders in the top 10 positions is Bill Donnelly and David Mosier, both coming in 10th in their respectively classes. Way to go guys! Great job!
Just a few great moments to remember were; Daryn Thompson’s pair of holeshots in a foot of mud – unbelievable - while old man “Lupe” pulls one out of his bag of goodies. Congrats!
This coming weekend we will be traveling to Doublin Gap, where we expect to see some great racing and share some good food. John is making his famous barbeque chicken. See you there.
